McMinnville, OR - The 2009 version of the Tacoma Titans rolled down to Linfield College on Monday and came away with two victories, 9-1 and 7-3, to begin the season 2-0. TCC racked up sixteen hits in the doubleheader, while Titan pitchers combined to check the Wildcats on just nine hits. The two wins came against the Linfield JV squad, consisting of mostly freshmen and sophomores.

Game One starter Colton Brown (1-0) threw a nearly flawless four innings of work, striking out five and allowing only one baserunner. Sophomore Erik Hoium and freshman Andy Scott combined to finish off the Linfield squad over the last 3 innings.

Offensively, the Titans were powered by freshman Brett Bielec's three hits, as well as the three runs scored by fellow freshman Nash Hutter.

Game Two got interesting late as the Wildcats roared back in the bottom of the 7th inning with two runs to tie the game at 3. Scott wiggled out of a bases loaded jam to hold Linfield to just the pair of runs and send the game into extra innings. In the top of the 8th, TCC exploded for four runs, the big blast being a 2-run double off the bat of sophomore catcher Vinny Lupinacci.

Hutter slammed the door shut on any potential second act of Linfield defiance in the bottom of the 8th, striking out two of the three batters he faced to earn his first career save.

Tacoma next travels to Pullman, WA on Friday to face Spokane Falls in a four game series beginning on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. The two teams are playing at Washington State University due to unplayable conditions at Spokane's home field.
