Tacoma, WA - By virtue of its win against Grays Harbor last Wednesday, and taking three out of four games this past weekend, Tacoma clinched the second seed in the Western Division race and will now host Pierce College this coming weekend (May 17-18) in a best-of-three series, with the winner earning the second automatic berth in the NWAACC Tournament. The Titans split a doubleheader at Grays Harbor on Saturday, dropping the first 10-0, but salvaging the second 4-3. On Sunday, TCC drubbed Pierce 8-2, and 10-3.

Game 1 vs Grays Harbor: An early start time and a steady rain did nothing but add to the lack of energy the club showed in the first game in Aberdeen, WA. Game time was moved up to 11 am from the usual 1 pm, which meant an 8 am departure from Tacoma for the team. Grays Harbor jumped on them early, scoring three runs in the first frame, before tacking on seven more to take the victory 10-0. Tacoma one hit, a fifth inning single by freshman catcher Vinny Lupinacci.

Game 2 vs Grays Harbor: A massive lineup change and a gritty pitching performance helped TCC gain a split for the day, 4-3 in nine innings. Sophomore Jesse Nunley nearly went the distance, checking the Chokers on three hits in 8 1/3 innings. He allowed three runs while striking out twelve and walking four. Freshman lefthander Erik Hoium came on in relief to earn the save. Matt Gomes and Kevin Holloway each had two hits to pace the Titans.

Game 1 vs Pierce: Freshman Patrick Meisenheimer picked up his seventh win of the season, running his record to 7-0. He scattered three hits over 5 2/3 innings, allowing only a sixth inning 2-run homerun. Diego Robles led the charge offensively with two hits, including a 2-run blast in the bottom of the first inning. Will McKenney also homered in the inning, a solo shot that bounced off the scoreboard. TCC had no trouble with the visiting Raiders, dropping them 8-2.

Game 2 vs Pierce: McKenney again displayed his long-ball prowess, driving his sixth homerun of the year over the right field wall in the bottom of the first. Lupinacci was also a huge factor at the plate, collecting three hits, while Allan Bennett walked twice and singled enroute to scoring three runs. Blake Webster earned the victory on the mound, pitching five solid innings, allowing just one run on seven hits. Five Titan relievers combined to finish the game and close out Pierce 10-3. The win completes the regular season sweep of Pierce, with Tacoma winning all five.

Tacoma (23-18 Overall, 18-7 Western Division) has moved up one spot to #7 in the latest Horizon Air NWAACC Baseball Poll. By virtue of their second place finish in the Western Division regular season standings, they will host third place Pierce College in a best-of-three series beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 pm. Sunday's game, if necessary, will be played at 1 pm as well. The winner of the series will earn the division's second automatic berth in the NWAACC Tournament May 22-26 in Longview, WA.

TCC Notes: Two Titans rank in the top 10 in the NWAACC in batting average. Will McKenney is sixth, while Anthony Dallosto is tenth. Diego Robles is third in the NWAACC in RBIs with 42. He is also tied for sixth in homeruns with six. McKenney also has six on the season. Todd Muecklisch is tied for eighth with five. Patrick Meisenheimer is tied for sixth in wins with seven.
