Titans Open Up Conference Schedule

Longview, WA & Tacoma, WA - A failure to eliminate the big inning and minimize damage by the opposition cost the Titans big time this past weekend. TCC dropped a 3-game set to rival Lower Columbia, losing 5-1 and 8-7 on Saturday in Longview, then 17-0 at home on Sunday.

Sophomore Dan Cox absorbed the loss in the first game of the series, giving up 5 runs total, but only 2 earned. "We just didn't catch the ball behind Dan well enough to win today," according to Head Coach Donegal Fergus. Offensively, Tacoma struggled to take advantage of scoring opportunities when they were available. Runners left on base plagued the Titans all afternoon.

Fellow sophomore Keith Young was tagged with the loss in game 2, allowing 5 earned runs. The Titans led the game 3-0 going into the bottom half of the 3rd inning, but Lower Columbia scored 1 in their half to cut into the lead. Slowly but surely they pecked away at that lead, eventually taking the game 8-7. Diego Robles was 2-5 on the day for Tacoma, as was 2nd baseman Justin Thornton.

Sunday, Tacoma returned home to host the Red Devils, but fared no better than they had the day before. LCC brought their heavy lumber and came out swinging, scoring 3 in the 2nd inning, then 6 in the 3rd. They never looked back, pulling away with another 6 runs in the 5th inning for a 17-0 victory.

The Titans return to action this Saturday at home against the cross-town rivals - the Pierce College Raiders. Come on out and enjoy the action. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 pm.
