University of Puget Sound

University of Puget Sound School of Occupational Therapy

Transfer agreements do not apply to transfers to UPS. Each course will be evaluated for transferability. Vocational courses may not transfer. The University of Puget Sound Office of Admission will provide unofficial evaluations of courses proposed to meet the School of Occupational Therapy prerequisites. Requests must be submitted in writing between May 1 and Oct. 1.

Students must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and may prepare for Occupational Therapy while pursuing any major course of study. Some majors may be designed as pre-Occupational Therapy, but students are cautioned to not assume that programs designed as such will necessarily benefit their application.

  • Anatomy and Physiology, preferably with labs (EXSC 221 and EXSC 222 or equivalent)

Human Development/Human Behavioral Science: a total of three courses, distributed as follows:

  • Human Development through the life span (PSYC 273 and PSYC 274 or equivalent)
    Note: It is possible to complete the Human Development prerequisite within a single course covering the life span.

In this case, students must complete 2 courses in category (B) listed below:

  • Human Behavioral Science course(s) in Anthropology, Psychology, or Sociology at the 200-level or above (except where noted) addressing one of the following content areas:
    - Normal and abnormal behavior of individuals and/or groups;
    - The analysis of behavior of individuals and/or groups and their interactions;
    - Culture and mental health.
  • Elements of Applied Statistics
    (MATH 160 or PSYC 201 and PSYC 301 or equivalent)

All prerequisite courses must be taken for a letter grade, and students must earn at least a "C" in each course. A minimum 3.00 cumulative undergraduate grade point average or a grade point average above 3.25 for the last 2 years of academic work is also required for admission.
