EMT Prerequisites

Admission is regulated by the State of Washington and granted on a space-available basis. Applications are accepted continuously. There is no application deadline for any particular quarter as we accept the first 28 completed application packets. To be considered for the next available class, applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the first day of class, and provide all material in the checklist below.

Application checklist

No application is considered unless all documents bulleted below are included.

  • College application (if not already enrolled in TCC). This must be completed before submitting an EMT Application and can be completed online.
  • EMT Basic Program Application 
    The application is attached to the program packet available below.
  • Washington State Patrol background check 
    You will only need to fill out Section A of this form. Turn in with other application materials to Bldg. 13, Room 160.
  • Affiliation and Certification form
  • Health Clearance form and Technical Standards - including documented proof of:
  • TB-2 Step (PPD) – Require a 2 step TB (PPD). The 1st TB skin test must be read 48 to 72 hours after administration. If the first TB Test is negative you must obtain a 2nd TB test within 1 – 3 weeks. The TB 2-step (PPD) must have been within last year. If history of a positive TB skin test you must submit an negative chest xray report.
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (MMR) – proof of immunity by vaccination (2 doses) or proof of rubella, rubeola, and mumps immunity by titer. If vaccinated prior to 1968, must be re-vaccinated.
  • Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis) – Vaccination must be within 10 years.
  • Hepatitis B – proof of immunity by 3 primary series shots plus immunity confirmed by titer OR Immunity confirmed by titer (anti-HBs) if no documentation of the 3 primary series shots OR HepB waiver
  • Influenza – proof of immunity by vaccination for current flu season
  • Chicken Pox (Varicella) - proof of immunity by vaccination or proof of immunity by blood titer. If you were born after 1994 you must have proof of 2 doses of vaccination.
  • Medical insurance - is highly recommend, but not required
  • High school diplomahigh school transcripts or GED certificate - photocopy
  • Assessment scores showing placement in: ENGL 085 and MATH 085 or official college transcripts showing successful completion of ENGL 085 with C or greater and MATH 085 with C or greater. TCC offers the ACCUPLACER placement exam and other community colleges offer the COMPASS test. Both will be accepted if they are less than 2 years old.
  • Current driver's license - photocopy enlarged 200 percent
  • Current CPR card - photocopy 
  • There are only 2 CPR cards that will be accepted - The American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider card or the American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer card. NO OTHER CARDS WILL BE ACCEPTED
