Welcome to the Al-Khwarizmi Math Advising and Resource Center (MARC) Website. We hope that you will find on these pages the information necessary to help you be successful in your math studies here at Tacoma Community College.
The MARC is available to all students currently enrolled at Tacoma Community College. Students will be asked to log-in with their Student ID number every time they use the MARC (instructions are posted next to the log-in computer). This allows us to track our usage for future planning and helps us to get funding for our center.
Please take advantage of the many free services offered by the MARC:
Math Help - The MARC has open study areas and a computer lab where students can study or work on math assignments in groups or individually. MARC tutors are available during our hours of operation and consist of instructors and student tutors. The tutors can be easily recognized by the colorful lanyards and name badges they wear. To get help, signal to a tutor using the flowers/leaves/ ducks/snowmen in the middle of the tables or raise your hand.
Math Advising – Some of the MARC tutors as well as the MARC director are very knowledgeable about the different Math courses offered at TCC and can advise you on your options and which courses may be best for you. Please feel free to ask us questions so we can help.
Math Resources – The MARC houses many different math resources which can either be used in the MARC or checked out for 2 hour use. Some resources that can be used in the MARC include computers with a variety of math software, small whiteboards, math reference books and magazines. Some resources that can be used in the MARC or checked out for 2 hours are textbooks, supplemental textbook materials, calculators, rulers, and headphones.
Math Testing – The MARC has a testing room available to TCC math students. You may take a Math test in the MARC with instructor permission only. Some instructors choose to use the testing room for all test days and others only send us tests for students who have to makeup tests due to excused absences. Please check with your instructor regarding their use of the MARC testing room.
You DO NOT need to be doing poorly in your math class to use the MARC. Students often use the MARC to deepen their understanding to help them achieve their max grade or to help them focus on math as they study. Some students have even found a study partner or group through using the MARC.
The MARC is located in building 19 room 22. If you wish to talk to someone in the math center please contact us at 253-566-5145.
