Logistics Certificate and Degree options
If you are currently working or are interested in a job in Transportation, Purchasing, Warehouse Management, or Inventory Control, you probably already know that:
- Taken together, the Ports of Seattle and Tacoma are the third-largest container complex in the United States.
- More than $40 billion worth of goods travel through the ports of Puget Sound each year.
- Goods flowing through the ports of Puget Sound lead to tens of thousands of direct and indirect jobs.
The multitude of career opportunities in the overall area of logistics and the importance of safeguarding the distribution of transported goods is a primary reason why the National Science Foundation awarded Tacoma Community College with a grant to develop a certificate and degree program in Secure Logistics, Transportation, and Supply Chain Management in June of 2006.
The Global Transportation and Secure Logistics Certificate provides an overview of the Logistics industry, with a focus on the technology needed to make the transportation of goods more efficient and secure. Students will be introduced to GIS and RFID technology as part of their training.
The Business Associate in Applied Science degree Concentration in Global Logistics builds on the certificate with additional training in Business Management.
Classes are offered as late afternoon or evening courses with partial and full online options to allow working or on-the road students maximum opportunity for course completion.
Jobs in this fast-paced industry are classified as high-demand with salaries that are above average.
