Associate of Science with a Biological and Chemical Engineering Specialization

This degree is awarded by Tacoma Community College and is designed for students who intend to transfer into a Biological or Chemical Engineering program at a baccalaureate institution. Students pursuing this degree will be assigned a TCC advisor who understands the requirements of this specialization. Many classes required for this degree are offered only once or twice a year.

Students should work closely with their Associate of Science advisor to plan their programs of study, including elective courses. Students who transfer with an Associate of Science degree will typically be required to complete additional education requirements at their four year institution.

Degree Requirements:

• 95 quarter credit hours in courses numbered 100 or above.
• At least 30 of the last 45 applicable credits must be earned at Tacoma Community College.
• A cumulative grade point average of 2.00 in all coursework applied to the degree and a cumulative grade point average of 2.00 in all TCC college-level courses.
• At least one course applied to the degree must be from the list of approved multicultural courses on the Approved Distribution Course List. These courses are designated with an (M) following the course title in the course descriptions section of the TCC catalog and in the Quarterly Class Schedules.

   2. Quantitative Skills (10 credits)
      MATH& 151, MATH& 152 (or above with approval of advisor)
2. Humanities and Social Sciences (15 credits)
   1. 5 credits from the Humanities on the Approved Distribution Course List. (ENGR& 114 highly recommended)
   2. ENGR& 104 (5 credits)
   3. 5 additional credits from either the Humanities or Social Science on the Approved Distribution Course List.
3. Specialization Courses (65 credits)
   1. CS 142 (5 credits)
   2. PHYS 121, 122, 123 (15 credits)
   3. MATH& 153, MATH 238 (10 credits)
   4. CHEM& 161, 162, 163, 261 (20 credits)
   5. CHEM& 262 or BIOL& 222 (5 credits)
   6. Two additional courses to be chosen from the following electives list:

      ENGR& 204, ENGR 231, ENGR& 224

      BIOL& 222, 223
      CHEM& 262
