Accounting Associate in Applied Sciences Degree Plan

The Accounting Program prepares students for employment in a wide variety of business accounting environments. The program's structure is progressive, leading to four levels of achievement for increasing levels of job responsibility. The certificates are available as stand-alone certificates or laddering towards the AAS degree. This program is not intended for transfer to most four year schools. Students who plan to transfer should meet with the program chair before enrolling in this program.

In addition, we offer specialized accounting certificates in Computerized Accounting and Tax Preparation.

PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES

Upon successful completion of the A.A.S. degree in Accounting students will:

  • Use critical thinking skills to produce accurate financial statements for a company and a company's financial position.
  • Use a simulated accounting department (group process) to prepare accounting documents using automated software to record business transactions for a company.
  • Demonstrate analysis of existing documentation by verifying the accuracy of information for a company and performing necessary reconciliation.

REQUIRED FOR COMPLETION OF THIS PROGRAM:

  • Assessment above or completion of Engl 95, Read 95, Math 75
  • Knowledge of CU 100 and HD 101.
  • If you are interested in this program but do not meet entry requirements you may be eligible for the IBEST program

Note: Demonstration of keyboarding and 10-key proficiency is required for completion of this program.

Accounting Office Associate Certificate (16 credits)
Designed for graduates seeking entry-level employment in general accounting office support positions. Take ACCT& 201 if you need transfer level accounting.

Assistant Bookkeeping Clerk Certificate
(15 additional credits = total 31 credits)

Helps prepare students for entry-level positions as assistant clerks in accounts payable or accounts receivable. Take ACCT& 203 if you need transfer level accounting and MATH 147 for transfer level math.

Note: To complete the Assistant Bookkeeping Clerk certificate, you must first complete the Accounting Office Associate certificate.

Bookkeeping Systems Certificate
(15 additional credits = 46 credits)

Helps prepare students for entry-level positions as accounts payable clerks, accounts receivable clerks and payroll assistants. ENGL& 101-Bus & CMST& 101 are transfer level classes. Take ACCT& 202 if you need transfer level accounting.

Note: To complete the Bookkeeping Systems certificate, you must first complete the Assistant Bookkeeping Clerk certificate.

Prepares students for entry-level accounting positions that work with integrated computerized accounting systems. BUS& 201 is a transfer level class.
