Admission to the college

  • Complete the online application or submit an admissions form – available at the front desk and good for both campuses.
  • If you take 5 credits or less and do not take a math or English course you may be eligible for a shorter enrollment process as a non-degree seeking student.

Entry skills assessment in reading, writing, and math is required if you plan to register for 6 or more credits, take a math or English course, or if you have never attended college before.

  • Stop by the GHC front desk or call 253.460.2424 to schedule an appointment to test.

The assessment fee is $18. This fee can be paid in advance online using a credit card, or in person with cash or check at the time of service. Photo ID is required.

Assessment may be waived upon a transcript review if you have taken college level courses at another accredited college. See an advisor.

New Student Orientation

Students attending the GHC are required to attend a group orientation session before registration, at either the Tacoma or Gig Harbor campus. Students receive valuable information regarding registration, degree programs and classes, student services and activities, instructor expectations, student success, and TCC policies. To access the schedule and sign up for a session, go to: www.tacomacc.edu/forms/newstudentorientationsignup.aspx . Registration is online only.

New Student Advising and Registration

New students taking 6 or more credits, taking math or English courses, or taking courses with prerequisites, must meet with an advisor to register for the first time. Advisors will assist each student with educational/career planning and with the online registration process. Classes fill up fast, so register as soon as possible.
