Are You Ready for Commencement?

Commencement will be held at TCC this year! Here’s the basic timeline for grads who plan to walk at the event:

Grad Fair

May 31, 2017
11:30am - 2pm, Student Center

  • Register for graduation
  • Get more information about the ceremony
  • Pick up your 4 guest tickets
  • Pick up caps, gowns and tassels (pre-order recommended)

Guest Tickets

  • Due to limited seating, each graduate will receive up to 4 tickets for their guests.
  • Additional tickets will be distributed through a lottery system. You may sign up for the lottery when you pick up your tickets in the Office of Student Engagement or at the Grad Fair.
  • Overflow seating in building 20 will be available for guests to view the ceremony via live streaming.

Spring 2017 Commencement

Saturday June 17, 2017

TCC Health and Wellness Center, Bldg. 20

Graduate Check-in: 9am, Building 20 Auxiliary Gym

  • In mid-May, graduates will receive a postcard and email requesting them to register to attend Commencement.  You must submit your degree/certificate application to receive the mailing and email. Details in the student portal (MY TCC).
  • Graduates who attend Commencement will be presented with a diploma cover. If you’re not planning to attend Commencement, a diploma cover may be purchased at the Bookstore.
  • Students must have completed the degree requirements for 2016-2017 school years (Summer 2016 through Spring 2017) in order to walk.
  • The ceremony will be live video streamed on the TCC website for viewers not on campus.

Cap, Gown, Tassels

  • Graduates are required to wear a cap and gown if you walk in the ceremony.
  • Pre-order your graduation package (cap, tassel, gown).
  • Graduation packages (cap, tassel, gown) will be available for purchase in the TCC Bookstore beginning late May. Cost: $43.99 (plus tax)
  • Purchase honor cord at the TCC Bookstore. The Bookstore will have a list of students eligible to purchase honor and high honor cords by the end of May.
    Cost: Honor - $6.49, High Honor - $11.99
  • Announcements may be purchased at the TCC bookstore.
  • If you are a financial aid recipient and cannot afford the cost of a cap and gown, please come to the Student Life Office (Bldg. 11) in May for assistance.
  • If you are a GED or High School 21+ graduate, you will be able to check out a cap and gown from the ABE Front Desk in Bldg. 7 in May.

Photography

  • Graduates can purchase portrait packages provided by Darel Roa Photography.
  • Photo Order Form
  • Appointments can be made for Cap & Gown portraits prior to the ceremony.
  • Commencement candids may also be captured as you cross the stage.

Steps to Graduation

Graduation is the completion of degree requirements and submittal of the degree application. Degrees may be completed in Summer, Fall, Winter, or Spring quarters. Once your degree has been granted it will be posted to your TCC transcript.

Commencement is a formal ceremony honoring student degree completion. TCC holds a Commencement ceremony once a year in June.

Applying to Graduate

  • Meet with your academic advisor to review degree requirements and complete the degree application or certificate application.
  • Submit completed application to Enrollment Services, Bldg. 7.
  • Degree application deadline for Spring graduates: Monday, May 1.

Early Commencement

Early Commencement is for students who will complete their degree requirements in the Summer Quarter but wish to participate in Commencement. Students must be within 2 courses (or 10 credits) of graduating and be registered for those classes for summer quarter 2017. Early Commencement students need to submit additional forms to request approval.

  1. The Early Commencement Form will be available on (TBD) at the Enrollment Services Front Counter, Bldg. 7.
  2. Attach a copy of your Summer Quarter schedule to the completed Early Commencement Form and your Summer Quarter Degree Application. Submit the forms to the Enrollment Services Office, Bldg. 7, by (TBD).
  3. You will be notified of approval by email.
