Students of the first Astronomy 101 class offered at TCC’s Gig Harbor campus are sharing what they’ve learned at an “Astronomy in the Community” event, 6:30 – 8 p.m. May 29 in the Gig Harbor campus main lobby.

Student-led workshop topics include:

  • The reason for the seasons
  • Phases of the moon
  • Sundials
  • Ancient astronomy
  • Science fiction
  • Misconceptions in astronomy
  • Harry Potter in astronomy
  • And more

The event is free and open to the public.

“It doesn't matter if you know absolutely nothing about astronomy or you are a Nobel Prize winning astrophysicist, you are welcome to attend,” said instructor Alice Few.

Offered for the first time Spring Quarter 2013, the evening class filled up quickly. Gig Harbor Campus Executive Director Janine Mott says the class will be offered again in the fall.
