Wednesday, February 06, 2013 – Questions about TCC’s Health Information Management program?

Come to our info session! 10 – 11 a.m. Feb. 8, Building 19, room 001.

Beginning Spring 2013, Tacoma Community College will offer several options for professional career development in Health Information Management:

  • Medical Reimbursement Specialist Certificate. The Medical Reimbursement Specialist (MRS) program may prepare students for employment as medical billers, patient account representatives, medical claims reviews, outpatient coding, and a variety of other medical support positions. Students can choose either to specialize in billing or in outpatient coding.
  • Physician Practice Manager Certificate. This 1-year certificate prepares students for employment in entry-level clerical or administrative positions in a physician’s office, clinic or other outpatient related health care agency.
  • The Health Information Management (HIM) Associate of Applied Science Degree program.  Successful graduates of the APS degree are eligible to take the national certification exam for Registered Health Information Technicians (RHIT) sponsored by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

Previously, our Medical Office Program had a billing certificate and a medical office assistant certificate. Those 2 certificates have been transformed into the Medical Reimbursement Specialist Certificate and the Physician Practice Manager Certificate. There have been significant curriculum changes to these certificates so that they now ladder in directly to the second year of the HIM Associate’s Degree.
