Monday, January 14, 2013 – TCC’s Student Life department brings in speakers to discuss current events and other topics of interest to the campus community each quarter. Winter Quarter 2013 Artist & Lecture Series events start at 11:30 a.m. in the Building 11 Student Center. This quarter’s events are free and open to the public.

January 22: Roya Hakakian

A founding member of the Iran Human Rights Documentation Center, writer and journalist Roya Hakakian will speak on the Middle East and human rights. Hakakian’s essays and opinions have appeared in publications including the New York Time and the Wall Street Journal, and she has been featured on CBS’s 60 Minutes. Her memoir, “Journey from the Land of No: A Girlhood Caught in Revolutionary Iran” was named one of Publisher’s Weekly’s best books of 2004.

February 28: Steve Pemberton

The first-ever Chief Diversity Officer and Divisional Vice President for Walgreens, Steve Pemberton is recognized as one of the nation’s leaders on matters of diversity and inclusion and their importance to the growth of the American industrial complex. Savoy named him one of the “top 100 most influential African Americans in corporate America” in 2008.

March 5: Lauren Zuniga

A nationally touring performance poet and teaching artist, Lauren Zuniga is ranked among the top 5 female poets in the world. Her works include two poetry collections: “The Nickel Tour,” published in 2009, and “The Smell of Good Mud,” published in 2012.
