TCC Names Athletes of the Year

TCC's Athletes of the Year for 2014: Joey Gamache and Laura Deaton.

Wednesday, May 14, 2014 – Every year, outstanding student athletes advance their academic and athletic goals at Tacoma Community College. This year, the college recognizes soccer midfielder Laura Deaton and baseball pitcher Joey Gamache as Athletes of the Year.

Laura Deaton, from Graham-Kapwosin High School, scored 8 goals and had 8 assists her freshman year, leading the Titans in both categories. As a sophomore and team captain, she went on to lead the Titans in points with 12 goals and 5 assists. Overall, she was ranked 10thin the NWAACC for total points scored. To cap off a stellar stint at TCC Laura was selected to the NWAACC all-star team as a midfielder and named the team MVP by her coaches. In her two seasons at TCC Laura scored 20 goals and had 13 assists. Laura has signed to play at Division 2 Hawaii-Hilo next fall.

Joey Gamache, from Bonney Lake High School, recorded 8 wins and 54 strikeouts his freshman year with his only loss being a 1-0 defeat in the playoffs. In 2013 he was recognized 1stteam All West Region. This year Joey is TCC’s number one pitcher on the top ranked team in the NWAACC and the 18thranked team in the nation. Currently for 2014 Joey is 7-2 with a 2.33 ERA. Joey is entertaining multiple scholarship offers but has yet to make a decision on where to play next year.
