Soc 120 Creative Project Assignment

Project and Presentation (See Course Schedule for Due Date) (25 points)

The first part is for you to express and reinforce your "voice" through a creative project that contains the following.

The first part of this assignment is for you to use your creativity in expressing and reinforcing your "voice. This project must include

  1. A definition of yourself including (but limited too) at least one of the following: gender, race, class, sexual orientation, age and ability
  2. At least one example of how what you have learned in this course has affected or fits into your life.
  3. Aspects of yourself and your culture, ethnicity, race, class, gender, sexual orientation, age and ability that you want to celebrate and nurture.

For your project, you may create a poem, a zine, a short story, a short play, a manifesta, a song, an altar, performance art, artwork (such as a drawing, painting, crayon–drawing, collage, photography, pottery, sculpture, etc), or sing, dance, or do anything else creative. The presentation of your project will be three - five minutes.

Students arriving after presentations have begun will have five points deducted from their total points for the project.

Project Paper (10 points)

The second part of this assignment is a short paper (1-2 pages) explaining your project.

  1. How did you define yourself?
  2. What is your example(s) of how what you have learned in this course has affected or fits into your life?
  3. What aspects of yourself and your culture, ethnicity, race, class, gender, sexual orientation, age and ability did you choose to celebrate and nurture through your project?
  4. What did you learn from doing this project?
